The Product Development Technician is responsible for producing and revising 3D scan files, 3D models, and 2D drawings of products and/or components based on verbal instruction, sketches, or other formal documents. This role also coordinates and communicates with vendors and internal staff to facilitate development of new product and changes to existing product.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, produce, and revise drawings using computer aided drafting software.
  • Use 3D scanning equipment to create 3D scans of samples both for archive purposes and to use as a communication tool with vendors. 
  • Compile and communicate specifications and documents such as 3D scans, photos, core specifications, thread sizes, etc.  Review and revise prints with vendor through final approval. 
  • Work with vendors to process improvements/changes to existing parts, develop new product, and resolve any product defects or issues.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, obtain basic mechanical data from documents, scans, and field measurements as needed to assist internal, customer, and vendor inquiries or make updates as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience in CAD programs such as SolidWorks, Geomagic, or similar programs, or Associate degree in computer-aided drafting & design.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret drawings. 
  • Must have mathematical knowledge including the ability to work with and convert both imperial and metric units of measure.
  • Must have excellent written communication with proper grammar and punctuation, as well as writing in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Must have experience reading tape measure, caliper, and other measuring gauges. 
  • High school diploma/GED

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with 3D scanning preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter, have excellent verbal communication, work well in a cross-functional team, and be adaptable to change.
  • Must possess excellent record keeping abilities with the ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze a problem, determine/execute a plan of action, and communicate/report results.
  • Be willing to act with urgency to deliver results based on defined goals.
  • Mechanically inclined. Familiarity with engine driven applications/parts/components preferred.
